ABOUT

Known in music circles as “The Guitar Man,” Jerry Reed has had a tremendous career as a chart-topping singer/songwriter, ace musician, and as a popular movie actor. He has written and recorded songs which have been hits in several genres, including country, pop and rock. And notably, Reed has not only written hits for his own artist career, but he has written classic hits for music legends such as Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash.

Born in Atlanta, GA, Reed learned to play guitar at an early age, also developing talents for his singing and songwriting. In the mid-1960s he struck up a longtime collaboration and friendship with renowned guitarist, Chet Atkins, and over the years teamed up to write and record a number of excellent, duet instrumental albums.  It was in 1967 that Reed notched his first chart hit with “Guitar Man,” which Elvis Presley soon covered, singing the song on his acclaimed ’68 Comeback Special on NBC-TV.  Presley then recorded Reed’s song “U.S. Male,” which became another chart hit.

In 1970, Reed had a breakthrough Pop/Country crossover hit with “Amos Moses,” followed by the electrifying “When You’re Hot, You’re Hot,” which remains one of the all-time pop, country and AC classics.  Reed went on to write and record many other memorable hits, such as “East Bound And Down” (from the soundtrack of the hit movie Smokey And The Bandit, in which he starred), “Lord, Mr. Ford,” “A Thing Called Love” (Johnny Cash), “The Claw,” “Ko-Ko Joe,” “The Crude Oil Blues” and “Let’s Sing Our Song.”
